A car other people drive regularly — friends, neighbours, or renters through a platform — is bought on different criteria from one that is only yours.   • Insurance and liability are the first question, not the last. A private policy usually does not cover letting the car out for money, and what a rental platform covers is in its own terms. Settle both in writing with your insurer and the platform before you buy a car for it.
  • A manual excludes part of the possible user group: anyone who took their test on an automatic carries a corresponding restriction as a code on their licence in many countries and may not drive a manual. Exactly which restriction applies is printed on that driver's own licence.
  • The interior is what wears out, not the mechanicals. Dark, smooth upholstery and a rubber or plastic floor can be cleaned; pale velour and a fabric headlining cannot. On a car other people use, that is not a matter of taste.
  • Kilometres are your cost centre. Shared out, mileage rises faster than it would with you alone, and depreciation follows it. A cheap, common car already low on the value curve takes that use better than a young, expensive one — on the expensive one depreciation eats the income before wear even starts.

Manageable dimensions, an automatic, controls anyone understands without instructions, and surfaces that can be cleaned. What such a car does not need is power — it only raises the risk and usually the premium.
