Seven-seaters
Seven seats does not mean seven adult places. On many compact SUVs the third row is a stopgap for short trips and for children; it becomes genuinely usable only in large vans and minibuses. The second question is the boot: with the third row up, most cars leave barely more space than two shopping bags.
What matters
- Sit in the third row yourself before buying. Knee room and headroom differ considerably between two cars of the same length.
- Check whether the third row folds into the floor or has to be removed. Removable seats spend most of their life in the cellar and are missing exactly when needed.
- Watch the permitted payload. Seven people with luggage exceed the load capacity of some cars — the figure is in the registration document.
