At this level you are mostly buying cars that cost considerably more new and have the steepest part of their depreciation behind them. That is the economically sensible moment for a premium car — provided the history is right. Unbroken servicing at a franchised dealer is not a nicety here but the precondition for the car being sellable at all later on.
What matters
- Have an independent used-car inspection carried out before buying. At this price the cost of the inspection bears no relation to the risk.
- Ask what a major service and a set of tyres cost before you commit. On premium cars both often approach what a small car costs to run in a whole year.
