Buying from the EU means declaring the import at the border and paying the vehicle tax and import VAT — Switzerland has charged no customs duty on cars since 1 January 2024. For a car with EU type approval the effort stays manageable. The cantonal motor vehicle tax is a separate matter: each canton sets it, and it differs considerably between them.
